Fauna

Stretta di Longi
It’s a very long gorge crossed by the Milè torrent which is an affluent of the river Fitalia. With the proper amount of water, it is possible to dive into the torrent and to pass under a characteristic cave. From a geologic perspective the park offers a wide range of sedimentary rocks dating back to the Tertiary period: in the highest areas and in the central-east part of the park there’s a main concentration of sandy and siliceous formations in which homogeneous blocks of sandstone alternates with thin layers of clays and marlstones. In the west part of the Nebrodi mountains and in the high valley of Simeto the predominant rocky formation is the clay composition; in the areas of San Fratello, Roccella Valdemone, San Marco D’Alunzio, Galati Mamertino and Alcara Li Fusi there are limestone formations developed in a discontinuous way which are very similar to the Alpine mountains
