Lago Biviere
Situated in the municipality of Cesarò, the lake has a surface of about 18 hectares; from a naturalistic perspective it is the most important moist area at high altitude in Sicily thanks also to the particular flora and fauna living in this place. The life of flora depends from the changing levels of the water that caused the formation of six different kinds of vegetation. The presence of water in a beechwood mountain represents a point of reference for the aquatic birds and for the stop of migratory birds. During the summer period the waters of the lake become red because of the bloom of a micro alga called Euglena Sanguinea. The landscape this area offers is valuable because of the thick vegetation of hydrophilus plants and of the huge beeches while northwards it is opened to striking views.
