"La Petagna" Naturalist Center
The Association “Centro naturalistico Onlus La Petagna”, founded in Longi the 26th of May 2003 by the Dr Migliore Salvatore, works in the naturalistic field to promote the technical, scientific and naturalistic knowledge and culture in all of its forms.
The most important aims of the association are:
- The encouragement of the study of the flora, fauna and rocks with a special consideration for the the Nebrodi mountains.
- The development of activities for the defence, protection and improvement of the environment, and for its correct enjoyment.
- The foundation of a technical-scientific centre which can become an important cultural vehicle.
The association has already prepared a permanent show in its head office, where people can admire about 500 photos of flowers, mushrooms, animals of the Fitalia valley. Besides there are other spaces dedicated to trees and shrubs, insects, rocks with their fossils, bird’s nests and spontaneous orchids. All the material exposed was found in our zone: the Fitalia valley. People can also admire two dioramas representing two seasons: spring and autumn.
